JUNIOR RIDING SKILLS COURSES
Kids love to ride bikes, and Purple Mountain loves to help them ride better. We’ve loads of experience and courses to suit all levels of rider. There’s courses for beginners through to Freeriders. Just pick the one that’s right for you.
Kids courses usually run in school holidays but we are also developing a Junior Riding Club which will run all year round.
The courses are based on the trail grading system

Green – beginners and novices

Blue – some basic off road skills

Red – good existing mountain bike skills

Freeride – adavnced riding with jumps and North Shore
Aimed at beginners and novice cyclists. Suitable if its your first time off road. You’ll learn how to use the gears to your advantage. When its best to brake and when its not. Learning to make sure you’re ready for whats round the corner. You’ll have fun learning new skills and exploring the forest.
For kids with some basic off road skills. You will learn to spot the way ahead and stay safe. Tackling some small trail obstacles and tips on making the up hill bits easier. You’ll also find coming down more fun and exciting but always safe and controlled. Exploring a bit further than you might have been before you’ll ride better with your new skills and confidence.
Red routes are difficult and this course requires some good existing mountain biking skills and fitness. Purple Mountain instructors will look to foster good habits and develop techniques that will last for ever. Skills will include how to handle drop offs and step ups, cornering smoother and faster, and how to ride roots, and rocks with confidence.
The Freeride course is for adavanced, regular riders. It is a longer course with 2 sessions. You’ll learn skills for jumping and wall riding as well as North Shore. In a small group you’ll have time to practice and hone your new skills under careful instruction from our Freeride specialist.

Courses are generally designed for kids over 9 years, we do run

Children must be able to ride a bike independently before attending a course

Courses generally start at 10am and finish around 1pm

Courses are fully supervised and instructed by Purple Mountain guides

If you are unsure as to the right course generally its best to start easy and work up

All courses except FREERIDE are £29. Hire is available but not included

You can use your own bike but it must be checked and safe before starting out
