Riding Skills level 1
This course is ideal for those new to Mountain Biking and will equip you with good core skills to improve your riding and increase your confidence to tackle small trail obstacles. With better control you’ll enjoy your riding all the more.
Previous experience
No off-road experience is necessary. Throughout this day length course, you will benefit from instruction by a qualified mountain bike instructor, learning with people at a similar level, and great forest riding.
Fitness levels
You will need a basic level of fitness which can be gained by a few aerobic work-outs per week on the run-up to the course. Remember though, riding a bike develops specific muscles which other aerobic work-outs might not. If you are unsure of your fitness level please talk to us.
What you will learn
The course will cover the following, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere
- Mountain bike preparation (safety checks)
- Riding position and personal bike set up
- Correct use of gears
- Understanding braking
- Introduction to cornering
- Climbing techniques
- Descending techniques
- Single Track techniques
- Small drop offs
Courses start at 10am and finish at approx. 3.30pm
Bikes
Any well serviced mountain bike with off road tyres will be fine, but suspension would be an advantage. We can provide hire bikes for use on course days, please check for availability at time of course booking.

Riding Skills level 2
The aim of this course is to develop existing core skills and to develop new techniques to increase confidence to tackle the trails. Completion of this course will equip the participant with the skills necessary to sucessfully ride the majority of natural cross country and purpose built trails in the UK.
Previous experience
Aimed at those riders who have completed Level 1 or have experience of riding some technical terrain and single track routes.
Fitness levels
More demanding than Level 1 you should be able to ride with sustained effort. (10-15 mins climbing). You will ride singletrack and some rocky/technical sections. If you are unsure of your fitness level please talk to us.
What you will learn
The course will cover the following, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere
- Mountain bike preparation (safety checks)
- More active riding position
- Climbing and descending on steep terrain
- Cornering – increasing traction, tighter corners
- Drop offs and step ups
- Front wheel lifting when and how
- Riding single track at speed
Courses start at 10am and finish at approx. 3.30pm
Bikes
It is recommended that you ride with front suspension and off road tyres for this course. We can provide hire bikes for use on course days, please check for availability at time of course booking. You might want to try out one of our top end demo fleet.
