LEVEL 2 INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Become qualified to lead and guide rides, and instruct in mountain bike skills with this Level 2 MIAS course.
The course is run over 2 days. At the end of the course you will be able to able to lead and instruct groups or individuals up to 600m above sea level over steep and rocky terrain.

Welcome to the Mountain Bike Instructor Training course (MIAS). The course is very informal and will consist of both indoor and outdoor work. You will need  packed lunches for both days (this can be supplied by Purple Mountain Cafe) as you will be out and about most of the time. The course will be split into small modules, some work for those wishing to complete the assessments will need to be completed overnight.

The MIAS leadership course if just that a qualification that allows to lead/guide clients at the correct level to their ability, it is not a skill based qualification. The main emphasis for the course will be on leadership and keeping clients safe.

If you wish to complete an assessment at level 1 you should have confident group management skills and able to ride fire track, country park type venues.

If you wish to complete a level 2 assessment you will need to be confident in leading others and riding yourself on single track terrain. Some leading and guiding experience will be necessary to gain this award.

For this qualification to be valid you will need to have first aid certificate of 8 hrs long, don’t worry if you do not have one it just means the qualification is only valid when you gain one.

During the weekend you will produce the evidence to hopefully pass you of at the correct level. This course is training and assessment-based and candidates will come away with a qualification of some type.

This is a rough itinerary for the weekend but  may change.

Day 1  9:15 – 5:00

Paperwork, PowerPoint presentation, intro games, lead ride looking at personal riding skills, navigation question paper, maintenance scenarios, leaders kit, general question paper.

Day 2  9:15 – 5:00

Plan route, lead route, deal with maintenance issue, navigation check. Produce risk assessment, produce route card, produce map,
